Who has the time to stop and look closely at a leaf or flower? It is only when I work in my yard or draw a plant that I really stop and look. I love growing and drawing plants, native plants especially. However, the work I show here is from other parts of the United States and the world i.e. “non-native”.<\/p>\n

Most of my pen and ink work started out as black and white illustrations for the “Digging In” gardening column of the Washington Post<\/em> newspaper. I created a weekly illustration for the Post<\/em> for 10 years. When that work finished I had a large library of black and white illustrations and wanted to do something with them. I discovered that by adding color digitally I could create new images; many of which you can now see in my gallery and shop.<\/p>\n

I also love to use graphite and watercolor. Usually that’s the way my watercolor botanical illustrations start; making in depth studies of the plant in graphite first before jumping in with the color.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
